Becoming a Member
Community is Not Utopia
Koinonia is not a utopia. We love it here, but it is not perfect.
If you’re interested in becoming a member of Koinonia—or think you may be—that’s wonderful. The first step is to visit. Come and observe the life we live and experience the rhythm of our day. Whether you’re here for a short stay, thinking about applying for our Internship Program or the Come, Stay Awhile & Serve Program, you’ll begin to get a sense of what it’s like to be part of our community.
Typically, you’ll be with us for one to two years before we review your petition for membership (if you decide to petition). Once accepted, you become a member, but it takes seven more years before you make your final promises—or, as we call it, “enter the covenant.”
Thank you for your interest. We truly appreciate it. Koinonia certainly needs more members, but membership is a vocation—a calling, a way of life. Whether Koinonia is your vocation is something that requires a long period of discernment. It takes time.
We’re happy to answer any questions you have. Feel free to email us, or better yet, make a reservation to come spend time with us.
