Responding to the Needs and Challenges of the Times

Helping with a build

Koinonia Farm is dedicated to fostering community, sustainability, and social justice through its various programs and initiatives. As we look ahead to 2024, we recognize the pressing needs and challenges that lie before us. This year, we aim to enhance our outreach efforts, expand our educational resources, and strengthen our partnerships to better serve our community. By addressing these challenges head-on, we can continue to create a nurturing environment that empowers individuals and promotes a more just society. Join us in this vital mission as we strive to make a meaningful impact together.

“Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?” — Matthew 25:35-40 (KJV)

Needs and Challenges of the Times

Helping at Fuller Center Build

One day, during an ESL class, Fabian and Lourdes discovered that their classmate, Ana, had lost her home in a fire. While Ana and her children were thankfully safe, they were left with nothing. In the spirit of Koinonia’s mission, Fabian and Lourdes brought Ana to what Clarence Jordan lovingly called “The Lord’s Storehouse”—our common closet—where she was able to find essential items like a table, chair, and kitchen supplies. These small but meaningful gifts helped her take the first steps toward rebuilding her life.

This is just one example of how Koinonia responds to the pressing needs and challenges of our time. Rooted in relationships rather than rigid programs, we are nimble and able to respond quickly when life throws the unexpected our way. Whether helping during a natural disaster, driving children to school, or assisting other local service organizations, Koinonians are committed to loving and serving our neighbors—whether through acts seen or unseen.

Some of our long-standing local partnerships include Harvest of Hope, Community Services Ministry, Flint River Fresh, Healthy Sumter, and Concrete Jungle. Many of our members also feel called to serve individually, with Koinonia supporting these efforts. Over the years, we’ve taught ESL classes, mentored students, visited and written to those who are ill, and served with local churches and organizations. We’ve also worked in medical advocacy and community outreach.

We never know when we’ll be called to help, and having a reserve of funds allows us to act quickly in times of need. Your support helps make this possible, and for that, we are deeply grateful.
