Addressing Both Physical and Spiritual Hunger
At Koinonia Farm, we believe in meeting two essential human needs: the physical and the spiritual. For over eight decades, we’ve been nourishing bodies and spirits with the resources we have, serving with humility as a small but dedicated community. Whether it’s growing fresh, healthy food or providing a place of peace and reflection, we strive to offer solace and sustenance in whatever ways we can.

Feeding the Body and Soul
Growing nutritious food on our farm helps meet the basic physical needs of those who visit and the surrounding community. But we also recognize a deeper hunger—the hunger of the spirit. As Mother Teresa once said, the spiritual hunger in our nation runs deeper than physical hunger. She saw great loneliness here in the United States, and we encounter that loneliness in our ministry, too.
The Heart of Our Mission: Relationships
At Koinonia, relationships are at the heart of everything we do. Hospitality and service are woven into our daily lives, and we take time to listen, offer companionship, and build meaningful connections with others. Whether it’s a quiet, one-on-one conversation or serving publicly in the broader community of Sumter County and beyond, we are committed to reaching out in love.
Service, Both Big and Small
Our work often goes unnoticed—small, quiet acts of service such as helping at the local food pantry or sitting with a lonely neighbor. It’s these everyday moments of care that make a lasting impact. For a glimpse into the work we’ve been doing, take a look at our Service Summary for the past year.

Please review the Service Summary for the past calendar year to see some of what kept us busy on and off the farm. We work together to serve in both big and small ways daily.
On the Farm

On the Farm: Our Core Ministries
Our primary ministries—Hospitality, Sustainable Farming, and the Internship Program—root us deeply in this land. These programs include our Come, Stay Awhile & Serve initiative, Camp Koinonia, and welcoming countless visitors each year. Together, these ministries form the backbone of our mission, allowing us to grow in community and service.
Off the Farm
Off the Farm: Responding to the Times
Beyond the farm, we serve in various ministries, always responding to the needs and challenges of our times. From prison ministry to managing community gardens in Sumter County, we work with local partners like the Harvest of Hope Food Pantry and Community Service Ministries to help where we can. Our Prison Ministry, including Hospitality Beyond Borders, allows us to provide hope and companionship to detainees through visits, letters, and court watching.
